The Betsy - South Beach, a world-leading boutique luxury property known for innovative arts and culture programs, announces The Betsy’s 9th Annual Escribe Aquí/Write Here Festival schedule to take place from August 1-31, 2023. This year’s program includes residencies for 10 artists in The Betsy Writers Room and two live-streamed readings hosted by Poet Caridad Moro-Gronlier - with a special introduction by Miami Dade Poetry Ambassador, Nicole Tallman.
The Betsy’s Escribe Aquí/Write Here honors artists who ‘do their creative work’ at the intersection of arts, culture and identity and gives a special nod to those working in Miami, where over 70% of residents live in multi-lingual, culturally diverse, homes. Escribe Aquí was created in 2015 at The Betsy with support from The Knight Foundation by Cuban-American writer Pablo Cartaya (pablocartaya.com) and Pedro Medina Leon (PedroMedinaLeon.com), Peruvian writer/founder of SoFla publisher, Suburbano Ediciones. The project is sustained with support from The Betsy Hotel and the Plutzik Goldwasser Family Foundation, under the direction of Deborah Plutzik Briggs, The Betsy Hotel’s Vice President for Arts and Community Engagement. Caridad Moro-Gronlier, author of Tortillera: Poems (Texas Review Press, 2021) is the 2022 and 2023 community curator.
Featured creatives for the 2023 festival include: Caridad Moro-Gronlier (curator), Dustin Brookshire, Veronica Corpuz, Tyler Gillespie, Melissa Gomez, Judy Ireland, Alexis Ivy, Jen Karetnick, Arsimmer McCoy, Alina Pleskova, Juliet Romeo, and KC Trommer.
